Megaman: Metropolitan Police Stop Artists From Progressing

So Solid Crew’s Megaman has opened up about why he feels the Metropolitan Police’s 696 form is preventing artists (particularly urban artists) from progressing. Form 696 is a ‘risk assessment’ that requires club promoters to provide the police with information about any events being held in the 21 London boroughs listed, including the names, addresses and phone numbers of the artists and DJs performing and even the type of music being played (although it was announced in 2009 that venues would no longer be asked about music style). These details are said to be important for the police to determine which events attract troublemakers and therefore be able to keep the public safe. However, there has been a considerable amount of uproar about the fact that form 696 is targeting the type of music that is listened to mostly by black and asian minorities. (UrbanDictionary.com) The demonization of certain groups and types of music within Britain is not new; in fact, it has provided a source of control for those in power since the middle-ages. A more recent example, however, of an attempt by the British Government to enforce order based on discrimination against a particular genre of music was the introduction of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Bill in 1994 – a section of which was entitled ‘Powers in relation to raves’ (S. 63). The Bill was created by the, then Conservative, government in order to protect certain communities within rural areas of Britain from the supposed ‘destruction and distress’ caused by ravers and their music. I’ve always had a strong passion for music but I’m a shy person and was somewhat subconscious about my own material, but I reception I got from listeners and people reaching out to me saying they relate to my music was a big thing for me as I’m not only a performer but a fan too that pushed me to pursue it further. My greatest influence was 2Pac he encompassed so much more than being just a Rap Artist What's new in the recording of your music?
