Trap Or Die U.K. Edition-Young Mon£y
5/5
Young P Mon£y, or Young Mon£y when he released this classic mixtape is a rapper from Birmingham. He has connections with hip hop heavyweights such as Sha Money XL, Master P and Tim Westwood, so we know that he is star certified, and this mixtape shows that he has the potential to be amongst those names very soon!
Bout Dat is a banging opener with a cracking beat and a great feature by Jigga B! Both put in great lyrical performances, but Jigga B's great rhyming pattern really steals the show on a great song and a perfect opener. Sha Money XL lends his hand in production early on in the mixtape with the great song U Got A Gang. Peedy certainly makes songs for the street, and this is an urban anthem with the hood beat and the classic dirty south thug rap vocals! Thug Passion was the single from this mixtape, and it's a very intelligent decision to release that song, as it is separate from Mon£y's usual gangsta style and is a much more mellow style, with an R&B laced beat and Chilli Palmer putting in a hypnotic vocal performance. U Kan Find Me is another track with a legend, Tim Westwood himself does an intro, and Mon£y does his appearance justice with this track. Following that is what I believe to be the highlight of the mixtape, Drivin' Wid Da Cadillac. A great beat with great lyrics, basically just a great song. It's a pity the song isn't very long as I believe it could have bought Mon£y into the mainstream with the right promotion! Young Mon£y then rocks the well known 'Push It To The Limit' beat, originally used by Rick Ross on 2 Da Limit. Peedy's flow is much like Ross's, as they both have southern hip hop rhymes, concentrating more on party songs than the over lyrical, and I think that this enables Mon£y to fit the beat perfectly. Veteran hip hopper Yukmouth appears on the Trap N**** song, with Young Mon£y standing his ground amongst a legend in the game. This song also features well known underground rapper Tha Realest. The next highlight for me is I.N.C. Gang, which features Young Mon£y's protĆ©gĆ©'s, Shaolin Soulja and Lil A.G., from Peedy's collective Bout Dat I.N.C. This song has a real gutter beat, with some classic rhymes! Lil A.G., one of the less prominent members of the Bout Dat clique, really shines on this song, hopefully he can make more appearances on future projects from the INC. The final standout song is Itz Dem Gutta Boyz. This features several dirty south rappers, and Peedy fits in really well with them. Rocking a No Limit sounding beat with heavy rhymes, Mon£y gives us a treat here.
Young Mon£y has critical acclaim all across the globe, and with this mixtape it's clear why. He's not the most lyrical rapper ever, but he makes great and classic songs, that are mainstream, yet underground and unique all at the same time. Let's just hope his forthcoming album matches up to this mixtape!
